On Tuesday, April 1st, the Senate Committee on Commerce and Consumer Protection and the Committee on Judiciary will hold a decision making hearing on House Bill 125 that imposes additional firearm storage requirements. House Bill 125 expands upon Hawaii’s existing firearm storage mandate by requiring firearms to be stored in a locked box, safe or with a trigger locking mechanism, with limited exceptions. Any violation would be subject to fines and possible criminal charges, HB 125 would also hold the firearm owner strictly liable for third-parties misuse of a firearm that was not stored in compliance with the provisions of the legislation.
