Last night, the Maryland General Assembly adjourned Sine Die from the 2025 legislative session. This year several pieces of legislation regarding your Second Amendment rights were introduced but none passed the legislature. Thank you to NRA members and Second Amendment advocates who took time to contact their lawmakers and attend hearings.
HB 387 would have imposed an 11% excise tax in addition to the 6% sales tax on the total sale price of firearms.
HB 937 would have taxed firearms, ammunition, and certain firearm accessories at a 12% rate as opposed to the current 6% rate.
HB 741/SB 634 would have banned lead ammunition for hunting.
HB 1287 would have banned many common semi-automatic pistols. This legislation would have defined a "convertible pistol" as any semi-automatic pistol that can be converted into a machine gun by the attachment of a switch/auto-sear.
SB 943/HB 1050 would have required a person filing a petition for a protective order to fill out an expansive questionnaire which would have included over 30 additional questions on the respondents’ firearms, social media posts, and names and addresses of the respondent’s friends and associates.
NRA will be back in Annapolis for the 2025 session. Meanwhile, please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates on issues affecting our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage in Maryland.
