Last week, the South Dakota Legislature adjourned sine die from the 2025 legislative session. Second Amendment supporters saw great success this session with Governor Larry Rhoden signing five pro-gun bills into law. NRA thanks Governor Rhoden, the bill sponsors, and all legislators for their support and continued effort to provide strong Second Amendment protections in South Dakota.
Senate Bill 81 prohibits the assigning and use of firearm and ammunition specific merchant category codes by payment processors. This critical legislation protects gun-owners privacy and ensures that bad actors cannot use credit and debit card transactions to create a gun-registry or block cardholders from making gun-related purchases.
Senate Bill 100 allows enhanced permit holders to carry on the campus of a state institution of higher education.
House Bill 1080 prevents restrictions on the second amendment in covenants that run with the land.
House Bill 1218 prohibits political subdivisions from restricting concealed carry on properties they own or lease for employees, officers, and volunteers, and repeals gun-free zones at eateries and establishments that serve alcohol.
House Bill 1222 allows for firearms to be stored in vehicles on school grounds by permit holders.
NRA will be back in Pierre for the next legislative session and will continue to work to preserve the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding citizens. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.
