Recently, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) proposed several changes to hunting regulations that would benefit gun owners and Second Amendment supporters. The proposals provide beneficial changes supporting your right to self-defense while engaged in outdoor activities on DWR properties and in state and national forests in Virginia.

If implemented, the following regulations will take effect on August 1, 2025:
4VAC15-90-80 allows for muzzleloading rifles that have more than one barrel.
4VAC15-40-60 repeals the current regulation and therefore allows for the possession and carrying of firearms while hunting with dogs.
4VAC15-40-61 sets the period during which hunting and trapping may occur on national and state forest land and DWR owned and managed lands.
4VAC15-40-62 defines where and when guns can be discharged.
4VAC15-40-70 allows for the possession and carrying of firearm, but not the discharge of one, while training dogs.
4VAC15-210-10 allows for the possession and carrying of a firearm, but not its use, in chasing or taking a racoon.
4VAC15-70-60 allows for the possession and carrying of a firearm, but not its use, while hunting any game species with a bow and arrow, crossbow, or slingbow, during the special archery season.
4VAC15-240-60 allows for the possession and carrying of a firearm, but not its use, while hunting with archery equipment or a slingbow during the special archery season.
