North Dakota: Legislature Adjourns Sine Die from 2025 Session

The North Dakota legislature adjourned sine die on Saturday, May 3rd. This year marked another successful session for NRA members as House Bill 1588, which strengthens self-defense rights and improves North Dakota’s concealed carry laws, was signed into law. The NRA thanks Governor Armstrong, Representative Ben Koppelman for championing HB 1588, all lawmakers who supported this legislation, and all NRA members and fellow Second Amendment advocates who engaged with their legislators this session.

House Bill 1588 enhances your rights when carrying a firearm for self-defense in North Dakota. HB 1588 removes the obligation of reporting to law enforcement upon any contact that you are carrying a concealed firearm when doing so without a concealed carry permit. The bill also reduces the penalty for carrying at a public gathering from an infraction to a non-criminal offense of $100. Additionally, the bill authorizes the State Board of Higher Education the ability to allow guns on school property and in buildings as well as other positive improvements to the state's concealed carry laws.

NRA will be back in Bismarck for the 2026 legislative session. Stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for future updates.
