Oklahoma: Governor Stitt Signs Firearm Industry Non-Discrimination Bill

On Monday, May 5th, Governor Kevin Stitt signed Senate Bill 500 into law, and will hold a signing ceremony in the near future. NRA thanks Governor Stitt, all legislators who advanced this critical legislation, and all NRA members and fellow Second Amendment advocates who took action in support of this bill.

SB500, introduced by Senator Casey Murdock and Representative Kevin West, prohibits public entities from entering into contracts with businesses unless they certify that they do not discriminate against firearm businesses. Anti-gun corporations, banks, and their executives have expressed interest in denying services to the firearm industry as a way to further their political agenda and impose gun control by making such business impossible when legislatures won’t bend to their will.

On the bill's passage, Senator Murdock said, “Oklahoma proudly defends the Second Amendment and the businesses that support it... Some of the nation’s largest banks have turned their backs on gun manufacturers and firearms retailers. We shouldn’t be rewarding these woke institutions with taxpayer-funded state contracts when they’ve made it clear they don’t share our values.” Representative West shared this sentiment, stating "Oklahomans overwhelmingly value the right to bear arms, and our state benefits greatly from the firearms industry. This measure protects our vital interests and ensures the state will not do business with companies that choose to discriminate against this industry."
