Michigan: Senate Judiciary Committee Advances Multiple Anti-Gun Bills

Yesterday, the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance a number of dangerous bills that further erode the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Michiganders. These bills now move to the full Senate for a floor vote. Please use the Take Action button below to contact your state senator and urge them to OPPOSE Senate Bills 224, 225, 226, 331, and 332.

Senate Bill 331 and Senate Bill 332 severely restrict the ability of law-abiding gun owners to build firearms for personal use. They regulate so-called “ghost guns” and impose strict limits on the raw materials used in personal firearm construction.

Senate Bill 224 bans the possession, sale, or transfer of bump stocks and similar devices imposing harsher restrictions than those that apply to fully automatic firearms. It comes despite the U.S. Supreme Court striking down the federal bump stock ban, confirming that such policies violate federal law and due process.

Senate Bill 225 and Senate Bill 226 expand “gun-free zones” by banning firearm carry in the Michigan State Capitol Building, the Binsfeld Senate Office Building, and the Anderson House Office Building—except for legislators. Rule changes already limited carry in these locations, but these bills would codify the restrictions into state law, making it nearly impossible to restore those rights in the future.

Stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website for further updates as these bills move to the Senate floor.
