Virginia: Your Action Needed on Hopewell City Council Ordinance

Virginia: Your Action Needed on Hopewell City Council Ordinance

Tonight, June 10, at 7:30pm, the Hopewell City Council is considering an ordinance to expand “gun-free zones” by prohibiting firearms in Hopewell government buildings, community and recreation centers, and parks, without an exception for Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) holders.

Please click the “Take Action” button below to contact the city council and urge them to OPPOSE this ordinance!

Gun-free zones create arbitrary boundaries where law-abiding citizens are disarmed, while zero measures are taken to prevent criminals from entering. Additionally, recent data shows that over 95% of mass casualty events occur in gun-free zones, highlighting the fact that such zones empower criminals to target "soft targets" where law-abiding citizens are disarmed. This ordinance would only decrease public safety and endanger individuals living in or visiting Hopewell.

Again, it is imperative that you click the “Take Action” button above to contact the Hopewell City Council members and urge them to OPPOSE this ordinance! Further, NRA encourages you to attend the meeting in-person. The address for the meeting can be found below:

Municipal Building
300 N. Main Street
City Council Chambers
Hopewell, VA 23860
