Texas: Second Amendment Legislation Signed by Governor!

Governor Abbott recently signed five pro-gun bills, continuing to show his commitment to the Second Amendment. The NRA is thankful for Governor Abbott's strong support along with Lt Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Burrows and legislative leaders who continue to prioritize these critical protections. Below find a brief description of the five bills recently signed bills:

House Bill 1403 sponsored by Rep. Cody Harris (R-Palestine) & Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) prohibits child placement and state agencies from requiring foster parents to provide a list of the specific types of firearms kept in the home and ensures that information regarding firearms in the home remains confidential.

Senate Bill 706 sponsored by Rep. Carrie Isaac (R-Dripping Springs) & Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown) provides for universal recognition of out-of-state carry licenses and aligns Texas’ License To Carry law with the permitless carry law.

Senate Bill 1362 sponsored by Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park) & Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola)/ Rep. Cole Hefner (R-Mount Pleasant) seeks to protect due process by prohibiting the recognition, service, or enforcement of red flag orders unless explicitly authorized under Texas law.

Senate Bill 1596 sponsored by Rep. Richard Hayes (R-Lake Dallas) & Sen. Brent Hagenbuch (R-Denton) removes short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns from the list of prohibited weapons in Texas. These items will still be regulated under the National Firearms Act at the federal level.

Senate Bill 1718 sponsored by Rep. Ryan Guillen (R-Rio Grande City) & Sen. Kevin Sparks (R-Midland) makes the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meetings & Exhibits eligible for Texas’ Major Events Reimbursement Program. This legislation encourages NRAAM to return to the Lone Star State and brings the strong economic impact that such a large event generates.
