The Legislature wrapped up its work late Monday night and departed Trenton with the recent package of anti-gun legislation stalled. As lawmakers begin their summer break, Garden State gun owners have secured a reprieve for the time being.
Thank you to the NRA members who contacted their Assembly members and Senators in opposition to the bills previously reported here. These were redundant, flawed bills that created a whole host of new problems and did nothing to improve public safety.
In addition to testifying against the bills in Trenton in both the Assembly and Senate, NRA’s member mobilization created doubt and uncertainty around every bill in the package. This sustained pressure was critical in causing more deliberation and uncertainty as the bills appeared to be fast-tracked in the days leading up to the recess.
This is welcome news, but New Jersey NRA members have learned from prior experience not to become complacent. When the Legislature returns, we will continue to closely monitor the bills and notify members accordingly.
