Tomorrow, September 17, at 8:30 a.m., the Miami Beach City Commission will hold a public meeting to consider an anti-gun resolution. The resolution, proposed by Commissioner Alex Fernandez, directs the Office of the City Attorney to prepare, and the City Administration to distribute, a letter encouraging private businesses within the City of Miami Beach to prohibit customers, employees, or invitees from bringing firearms or other weapons onto their private property.
Please contact members of the City Commission to OPPOSE the resolution! Contact information for Commissioners can be found here: Miami Beach City Commission | City of Miami Beach
While a resolution is only a formal expression of opinion, will or intent voted by an official body or assembled group, the City Commission should not waste time on a resolution that will do nothing to reduce crime in Miami Beach. The resolution raises concerns for Miami Beach residents’ Second Amendment rights. The city government should not pressure private businesses to adopt anti-gun policies, as this undermines property owners’ autonomy and stigmatizes gun owners. Click here to read the resolution.
NRA encourages you to attend the City Commission meeting in person to provide public comments. The meeting address and information on how to join virtually can be found below.
