On Wednesday, the Senate Local Government Committee held a public hearing to gather information on Senate Bill 822, which would strengthen the Commonwealth’s firearms preemption statute. Among other provisions, this legislation would allow membership organizations to recover litigation costs when local governments are found to have violated or subverted the Commonwealth’s firearms preemption law. The NRA was invited to provide testimony regarding the status of firearms preemption nationwide, which has been a priority to ensure consistency in firearm laws and regulations.
The Committee took no action; however, SB 822 may be considered later this session.
