On Wednesday, January 14th, the Maryland General Assembly convenes for the 2026 legislative session. As in 2025, the Legislature is expected to pursue an anti-gun agenda, including the already filed bills below:
SB 118, will impose an 11% excise tax on firearm sales. This is not a funding tool but a deliberate effort to discourage gun ownership.
SB 181, bans the use of lead ammunition for hunting.
HB 126/SB 27, exempts concealed carry permit holders and law enforcement from Maryland's seven day waiting period.
Additionally, legislation to modify the Maryland Handgun Roster Board is expected. This is being pursued by anti-gun legislators where changes could be detrimental to gun owners.
Gun owners and sportsmen throughout the state must stay actively involved to defend freedom.
