On Monday, January 27th, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee will hold a hearing on a pro-gun reform bill addressing Maryland’s arbitrary waiting period requirements.
On Wednesday, January 29th, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on a gun confiscation bill that dramatically expands firearm surrender tied to civil protective orders without adequate due process protections.

Bills being heard include, but are not limited to:
Senate Bill 27 provides a targeted exemption from Maryland’s seven-day waiting period for law enforcement officers, retired officers in good standing, and lawful holders of a Maryland Permit to Wear, Carry, or Transport a Handgun.
HB 83 would mandate automatic firearm and license surrender without any finding that a firearm was used or threatened, require respondents to surrender firearms and credentials within 24 hours or submit sworn affidavits under penalty of perjury, and direct law enforcement toward compliance checks, search warrants, and home firearm seizures stemming from civil proceedings.
