Maryland: Gun Control on the Move

Two weeks remain in the 2026 legislative session and gun control is on the move in Annapolis. On Wednesday April 1, the House Judiciary Committee will hear two anti-gun bills, SB 334, banning many common semi-automatic pistols, and SB 775, creating a statewide gun "buy-back" and firearm destruction scheme. Please use the Take Action button below to contact committee members and respectfully urge them to OPPOSE SB 334 and SB 775.

To be heard House Judiciary Committee Hearing Wednesday April 1st at 1pm

SB 775 would require that every firearm surrendered through a gun buyback program be permanently destroyed, including all components and parts.

SB 334 seeks to prohibit so-called “machine gun convertible pistols” using vague and overly broad language that could sweep in many commonly owned semi-automatic handguns, including Gen 5 and older Glock pistols, simply because criminals might illegally modify them with conversion devices. These conversion devices are already illegal, yet this proposal targets responsible firearm owners rather than criminals who ignore existing law.

Other bills that have crossed over and are awaiting further action:

HB 83 would mandate automatic firearm and license surrender without any finding that a firearm was used or threatened, require respondents to surrender firearms and credentials within 24 hours or submit sworn affidavits under penalty of perjury, and direct law enforcement toward compliance checks, search warrants, and home firearm seizures stemming from civil proceedings.

HB 1067 would require the Department of Natural Resources to phase out traditional lead ammunition for the hunting of all game species by July 1, 2029.
