Ohio State House Overrides Governor’s
Veto of Statewide Preemption 71-21

Fairfax, VA - The Ohio State House of Representatives voted to override Governor Taft’s veto of HB 347, a National Rifle Association (NRA)-backed law, by a vote of 71-21.  HB 347 creates statewide preemption, ensuring that firearms laws are uniform throughout the state. Currently, 43 states across the country have similar laws.

Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, stated, “I want to thank Speaker John Husted for his leadership on this issue.  HB 347 is good public policy, and we are pleased that the overwhelming majority of Representatives in the Ohio State House agreed with the NRA.  However, our work isn't finished.  We will work with the Ohio State Senate to ensure that this sound legislation becomes Ohio law.”
