House Bill 1149, authored by State Representative Donald Dietrich (R-42), is headed back to the Senate. The House of Representatives originally passed the bill by a vote of 80 to 9 with the age minimum on deer hunting set at 12. The Senate Natural Resources Committee amended the bill to raise the minimum age to 13 and the Senate agreed, which sends HB 1149 back to the House for concurrence. Luckily, the House is standing by its version. Please contact your State Senator and urge him or her to support the House version of HB 1149, with an age minimum on deer hunting set at 12.
The 30 states with the least restrictive hunting ages have better hunter retention rates and better safety records than the 20 states that have more restrictive age minimums on hunters.
