Arizona: Help Clean Up the Ironwood Forest National Monument on Saturday, June 16!

Friday, June 15, 2007
As you may be aware, Ironwood is at the center of controversy over the Bureau's proposal to close all 128,000 acres of the Monument to target shooting. One of the reasons given for the proposed closure is the amount of litter left at these sites by people illegally dumping or target and other debris left behind by some shooters.
We are appealing to our members who live in the greater Tucson area to donate some of their time to participate in the clean up to show that shooters are just as concerned about keeping our public lands clean as are other recreationists. We encourage you to participate and ask that you identify yourself as a NRA member by either wearing a NRA logo cap or shirt. Sportsmen-volunteers will be the best way to demonstrate the importance of keeping Ironwood open to recreational shooting.
Details: Take I-10 west to Avra Valley Road, exit at #242. Pump Station Road is about 12 miles west of the exit. Follow the signs to the check in site. Water, equipment and tools will be provided at the check in site, along with a safety briefing. Wear sturdy shoes, gloves and a hat. You may want to bring snacks for yourself and extra water. For questions, please call the BLM Tucson Field Office at (520) 258-7240 for questions or BLM Ranger Maile Adler at (520) 405-0393.
