On Tuesday, October 9 nearly 500 sportsmen attended a rally in Mullica Hill, NJ to protest the assault of their hunting and fishing tradition. Sportsmen from all over southern New Jersey attended this event to send a clear message to members of the legislature that hunters and fishermen will stand and fight for their outdoor traditions.
The primary focus of the event was to protest A3275, sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Panter (D-12). This bill would restructure the Fish & Game Council to take away representation of New Jersey sportsmen and give more influence to animal “rights” activists that want to ban hunting in the Garden State.
Among the sportsmen were supportive members of the New Jersey Legislature. Assemblymen John Burzichelli, (D-3) told those in attendance “What a stupid bill, something that's been working for 60 years and we're going to fix it?”
State Senator Nick Asselta (R-1) accused North Jersey politicians of trying to "erode our way of life in South Jersey. This is where we need to draw the line."
State Senator Stephen Sweeney (D-3) also spoke in opposition to A3275 saying, "I promise you tonight, if that bill comes up we're going to kill it in the Senate."
The National Rifle Association is keeping a close watch on A3275 and all other anti-gun and anti-sportsman legislation proposed in the New Jersey Legislature. We will fight all attempts to erode the Second Amendment and hunting rights of the citizens of New Jersey.
