Important Pro-Second Amendment Bills in Virginia Need Your Help Today!

Friday, February 15, 2008

Earlier this week, the Virginia Senate passed two critically important self-defense measures, Senate Bill 436 sponsored by State Senator Jill Vogel (R-27), and Senate Bill 476 sponsored by State Senator Emmett Hanger (R-24).

SB436, passed by a vote of 31 to 9, and will allow law-abiding, non-concealed carry permit holders to store a handgun in a locked compartment or container in their personal vehicles or boats. SB476, which passed by a vote of 24-15, will allow restaurant owners to decide if they will allow a law-abiding citizen with a Right-to-Carry permit to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense in their restaurants. Both of these bills represent significant advances in an ongoing effort to protect and enhance Virginia’s self-defense statutes.

These bills have been assigned to the House Militia, Police and Public Safety committee, and will likely be heard in the near future. Please contact your Delegate and strongly encourage him or her to protect your right to self-defense by supporting and voting for SB436 and SB476! You can find your Delegate’s contact info by clicking here.

Also this week, the full Senate unanimously passed House Bill 1175, sponsored by Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (R-31). HB1175, also know as the "apprentice hunting license" bill, is part of the "Families Afield Initiative," which is a collaborative effort among NRA, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the National Sport Shooting Foundation. HB1175 creates increased opportunity and access for novice hunters by allowing them to accompany experienced, licensed hunters into the field to learn first hand of Virginia’s proud hunting heritage. HB1175 now heads to the full Senate for consideration. Please contact your Senator and thank him or her for voting for HB1175 and supporting Virginia’s proud hunting and sporting heritage! There contact information can be found by clicking here.
