Has Your Mayor Joined a National Anti-Gun Group?

Friday, September 25, 2009

Six local Indiana mayors remain as members of “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” (MAIG), founded and funded by activist anti-gun billionaire and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Despite its very misleading name, this national group of anti-gun mayors has lobbied Congress against national reciprocity for state Right-to-Carry permits; against much-needed reform of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE); for regulating gun shows out of existence; and for repealing the Tiahrt Amendment, which protects the privacy rights of law-abiding gun owners and limits disclosure of sensitive firearm trace data.

Bloomberg created “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” as a front group to influence Congress to oppose important pro-gun reforms and support new federal gun control restrictions. These are the positions with which several Indiana mayors have chosen to align themselves.  You can do your part by contacting these mayors’ offices today and urging them to withdraw from MAIG.

In the last three weeks, one-third of the participating Indiana mayors have resigned their membership in the anti-gun coalition, and these remaining mayors should do the same.

The following Mayors remain members of Mayor Bloomberg’s anti-gun coalition and need to hear from you today:

Allan Kauffman – Goshen, IN

Fred Armstrong – Columbus, IN

Richard Hickman – Angola, IN

Tom Jones – Linton, IN

Steve Luecke – South Bend, IN

Tom Henry – Fort Wayne, IN

Please call, e-mail and write these mayors today and ask them to support law-abiding gun owners by publicly disassociating themselves from Michael Bloomberg and “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.”  Help them make the right choice between protecting our Second Amendment rights and continuing to be associated with those who actively oppose and undermine our firearm freedom.
