NICS Legislation to be Heard in Oregon House Judiciary Committee

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

House Bill 2791, introduced by state Representative Kim Thatcher (R-25), would remove the Department of State Police as the designated state point of contact for the purposes of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

HB 2791 is scheduled to be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 343.  We want to pack the hearing room with supporters to send a message that Oregon gun owners are tired of paying for background investigations through the state that could be free of charge under the NICS federal program.

Please contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and respectfully urge them to support HB 2791.  Contact information for this committee can be found below.
