Pro-Gun Bills Advancing in Nevada

Governor Brian Sandoval signed into law Assembly Bill 217 on May 12. AB 217, introduced by Assemblyman John Ellison (R-33), allows residents of non-contiguous states to purchase long guns in Nevada.  It also allows Nevada residents to purchase long guns in non-contiguous states.  This legislation brings Nevada in line with the protections provided by the Firearms Owners Protection Act, which allows for the interstate sale of long guns by federally licensed firearms dealers.

Please contact Governor Sandoval and thank him for signing this important bill into law. You can contact the Governor by e-mail by clicking here.

On May 9, Senate Bill 126 passed in the Assembly Judiciary Committee work session by a unanimous vote.  Introduced by state Senator James Settelmeyer (R-Capitol Senatorial), SB 126 would streamline the Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit application and qualification process to allow a permit applicant to qualify with any semi-automatic firearm, similar to the current process for any revolver.  Please contact your Assemblyman and urge him or her to support SB 126.  For help identifying your Assemblyman, and to find his or her contact information, please click here.  Also, please contact Speaker John Oceguera (D-16) and request that he put SB 126 on the Assembly calendar for a vote.  Speaker Oceguera can be reached by phone at (775) 684-8595 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Assembly Bill 143 will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow, May 17. Introduced by Assemblyman David Bobzien (D-24), AB 143 is similar in nature to SB 126 regarding the use of any semi-automatic firearm and any revolver to qualify for a CCW permit.  AB 143, also ensure that the identity of CCW permit holders is kept confidential, passed in the Assembly on April 18 by a 39 to 3 vote.  Please contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and urge them to support AB 143.  Contact information for this committee can be found below.
