Maine: "Constitutional Carry" Legislation Hangs in the Balance

Action Needed: Please click here to contact your state lawmakers today and urge them to support your Right-to-Carry in Maine!

This week, with the Legislature adjourning for the holiday weekend, the fate of LD 652 remains undetermined.  All indications are that this legislation will be voted on next week in the state Senate.

As previously reported, this NRA-backed legislation would recognize the right of all residents of Maine who are not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm to carry concealed without obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP).  LD 652 would also leave the current carry permitting system intact for those who wish to participate in reciprocal concealed carry permit agreements when traveling to other states.

Bloomberg and his anti-gun minions are continuing to barrage the Legislature with misinformation regarding "safety concerns."  This anti-gun rhetoric is unfounded.  In fact, the top law enforcement agency, The Maine State Police went on record supporting this legislation, citing the fact that over the past 30 years, fewer than 20 people per year have ever been charged with carrying a concealed weapon of any type.  Additionally, less than one tenth of a percent of the 36,000 applicants reviewed by the State police are denied.

The time for action is now!  Please continue to contact your state Senator and urge him or her to support LD 652.  Also, please continue to contact your state Representatives and urge him or her to do the same.  To find out who represents you, click here.  A vote is expected on LD 652 as early as next week.

Please also sign this pledge to show your support for "Constitutional/Permitless Carry" and urge your family, friends and fellow Maine activists to do the same.
