Tomorrow, House Bill 1071, a bill which would allow the petitioner of a civil protective order to temporarily carry a handgun without a permit, is scheduled for a hearing in the House Committee on Public Policy.
HB 1071, introduced by state Representative Sean Eberhart (R-57), would ensure that victims of domestic violence are not left defenseless at their most vulnerable time while waiting for their carry permit to be approved. HB 1071 would provide victims of domestic violence added protections against would be abusers while also protecting our constitutional right to self-defense and due process. If a victim is in danger to the point where a loss of constitutional rights is viewed to be necessary, then it should be even more important to provide safety and protection to the victim.
