Louisiana: Firearms Bills on the Move - Take Action Now!

A number of firearm-related bills, including enhanced preemption, are moving in the Louisiana Legislature. It's critical that NRA members and Second Amendment supporters get involved to keep the momentum going! Please use the two separate Take Action buttons below to engage with legislators and encourage them to support pro-gun legislation and oppose anti-gun legislation.

Eligible for Senate Floor Votes:

Both SB 152 and SB 214 passed out of committee and are eligible for votes on the floor as early as today.

SB 152 makes technical changes to clarify existing statutes providing uniformity throughout state law as it pertains to carrying a concealed firearm.

SB 214 will create a uniform set of laws pertaining to the carrying of concealed firearms in dining establishments, ensuring law-abiding citizens have the right to defend themselves and their families.

Use the Take Action link below to contact your senator and urge them to support these important measures on the Senate floor!

Eligible for Votes in the Senate Judiciary C Committee - Tomorrow, March 26th, at 10:30 AM

Pro-Gun:

SB 194 enhances and strengthens Louisiana’s existing firearm preemption laws to ensure statewide uniformity for firearm laws by:

  • Expanding the types of behavior political subdivisions are generally prohibited from regulating to include the manufacture, carrying, storage, and taxation of firearms.
  • Providing standing for both individuals and organizations to seek declaratory and injunctive relief when political subdivisions are in violation.
  • Requiring political subdivisions to repeal any offending ordinances or regulations, within 6 months of the bill's enactment.

Anti-Gun:

SB 203 establishes the state’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention and positions it under the direct supervision and control of the superintendent of state police. SB 203 states that the purpose of the new office is to develop strategies to prevent and address gun violence in Louisiana. In reality, this is part of the White House agenda, announced late last year calling for states to develop their own offices. While the purported goal of addressing violence in our communities is a worthy cause, the reality is this is nothing more than a taxpayer-funded propaganda shop to push anti-gun policies without actually addressing crime in our communities.

SB 256 is a “red flag” measure that grants the government the authority to confiscate a person's firearms and deny their Second Amendment rights based on third party allegations. Use the Take Action link below to contact the Senate Judiciary C Committee members and urge them to SUPPORT SB 194 and OPPOSE SB 203 and SB 256.
