Massachusetts: Hearing for Bill on Gun Rationing Scheme

Massachusetts: Hearing for Bill on Gun Rationing Scheme

On December 19, the Massachusetts state Joint Committee on Public Safety & Homeland Security will be hearing Senate Bill 2063.  Introduced by state Senator Cynthia Creem (D-First Middlesex and Norfolk), S.2063 seeks to ration your Second Amendment rights under the guise of crime control.  Please contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE this bill.  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact committee members.

Ostensibly to combat illegal trafficking of firearms, S.2063 instead arbitrarily limits law-abiding citizens to one firearm purchase or transfer a month and creates unnecessary red tape.  In addition, the measure makes no exception for the loaning of a firearm and eliminates the online portal for private sales, thus moving all private firearm transactions to a licensed firearm dealer.  This proposal also allows dealers to charge up to $10.00 to facilitate such a transaction.

There is little evidence for the effectiveness of gun rationing laws. Existing Multiple Purchase Reporting Forms already alert the BATFE about every multiple handgun transaction, and they along with local law enforcement can use those forms to focus on genuinely suspicious transactions, such as repeated purchases of large quantities by an individual.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 2063.  In addition, if you would like to attend the hearing, the information is below.
