California: Firearm-Related Hearings Scheduled for Next Week

On Monday, March 19, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) will be hosting a public hearing on the proposed regulations regarding the serialization of home-built firearms. The proposal is a result of the recently enacted changes to California law pursuant to Assembly Bill No. 857 (the so-called “ghost gun” bill), adopted in 2016 as part of “Gunmageddon.”

The hearing is scheduled to run from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Resources Building Auditorium, located at 1416 9th Street, Sacramento, CA. Those wishing to provide written comments may do so by submitting them via email to [email protected]. Written comments must be submitted by 5PM Monday March 19.

On Tuesday, March 20, there are several firearm-related bills scheduled to be heard in their respective policy committees.  Please use the TAKE ACTION button below to contact the members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee to urge them to OPPOSE AB 1927 and AB 2103, along with contacting the members of the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee to SUPPORT AB 2151.

The below bills are scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee at 9 a.m. in the State Capitol, Room 126.

OPPOSE - Assembly Bill 1927, sponsored by Assembly Member Rob Bonta (D-18), woulddirect California’s Department of Justice (DOJ) to “develop and launch a secure Internet-based platform to allow a person who resides in California to voluntarily add his or her own name to the California Do Not Sell List.”  For more information on this issue, please read our article Waivers of Gun Rights: A New Shot at Gun Repression.

OPPOSE - Assembly Bill 2103, sponsored by Assembly Member Todd Gloria (D-78), would add certain requirements in addition to the already mandated training courses for a citizen to obtain a concealed carry license. Currently, concealed carry permit holders are already required to receive up to 16 hours training prior to receiving a permit and at least four hours of additional training every two years prior to renewal.

The below bill is scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee at 9 a.m. in the State Capitol, Room 444.

SUPPORT - Assembly Bill 2151, sponsored by Assembly Member Adam Gray (D-21), would help make hunting more affordable for youths by reducing the cost of certain big game tags for youth hunters.
