Connecticut: Hearing Scheduled for Ammo Tax

Connecticut: Hearing Scheduled for Ammo Tax

On Thursday, February 27th, the Connecticut Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee has scheduled a public hearing for House Bill 5040, an additional tax on the purchase of ammunition. The hearing will take place in Room 2E of the Legislative Office Building at 1:00 PM. Please contact members of the committee and urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 5040.

House Bill 5040, sponsored by Rep. Jillian Gilchrest (D-18), adds a thirty-five percent excise tax on the purchase of any ammunition in the state of Connecticut. Gun owners in Connecticut already pay a high price to lawfully own their firearms. This additional tax will only further price out law-abiding citizens' ability to train, participate in competitions, and hunt.

On the same day as the hearing, the Connecticut Citizens Defense League will be hosting their first Lobby Day of the session, and we urge all NRA Members to come out and participate. The first 50 NRA Members to sign up to testify in-person will receive a free NRA t-shirt! You can sign up to testify in the Legislative Office Building atrium anytime between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on February 27th. NRA staff will be onsite to help. The committee hearing will begin at 1:00 PM.

If you are unable to attend the hearing or Lobby Day, you can submit written testimony to [email protected] using “OPPOSE House Bill 5040” in the subject line. And again, please contact members of the House Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee and urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 5040.
