Arizona: Pro-Gun Bills Receiving Committee Hearings

Tuesday, February 1, 2022

Arizona state flag

This week, four pro-gun bills are receiving hearings in four separate committees. Please use the Request to Speak application (RTS) on the Arizona State Legislature website to ask them to SUPPORT HB 2414, HB 2166, HB 2316, and SB 1252. RTS is the most efficient and effective way to contact committee members regarding second amendment legislation. It is imperative that you create an account and continue utilizing this tool throughout the 2022 legislative session.

On February 2nd, the House Judiciary Committee is hearing House Bill 2414, to allow law-abiding citizens to store their loaded firearms in their locked personal vehicles while parked on school grounds. This ensures that parents are able to pick-up and drop-off students without first having to stop and unload their firearms before driving onto school grounds, or deviating from their route to park off-campus. So called “gun-free zones” are arbitrary boundaries that only disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless while doing nothing to deter criminals.

On February 2nd, the House Ways & Means Committee is hearing House Bill 2166, to exempt firearms and firearm safety equipment, such as gun safes and gun locks, from state transaction privilege and use taxes. This recognizes that the government should not be placing additional cost barriers on citizens who wish to exercise their Second Amendment rights, and who wish to safely store their firearms.

On February 2nd, the House Government & Elections Committee is hearing House Bill 2316, to expand areas where concealed carry permit holders can lawfully carry concealed firearms, to include certain public establishments and events.

On February 3rd, the Senate Judiciary Committee is hearing Senate Bill 1252 making revisions to Arizona's self-defense statutes.

In addition, today, the Senate voted 29-0 to pass Senate Bill 1177, legislation that requires the Arizona Department of Public Safety to send out a renewal reminder and application to concealed weapons permit holders at least 60 days prior to the expiration of a permit. It will now go to the House for further consideration.

Again, please use the Request to Speak application (RTS) on the Arizona State Legislature website to ask the committees to SUPPORT HB 2414, HB 2166, HB 2316, and SB 1252.
