Alabama: FINAL Version of Constitutional Carry Filed, Gathers Leadership Sponsors

Yesterday, lawmakers introduced House Bill 272, the final version of constitutional carry legislation. NRA thanks lead sponsor Representative Shane Stringer, and co-sponsor Rules Chairman Mike Jones, for their tireless efforts drafting HB 272, as well as co-sponsors Speaker Mac McCutcheon, Representative Andrew Sorrell, and Public Safety and Homeland Security Chairman Allen Treadaway, for their hard work in caucus fighting for this critical legislation.

The bill now moves to the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee where it will have a public hearing next Wednesday, Feb 9th, at 9:00AM. If you can be at this public hearing - be there! Your presence is critical! For information on attending the hearing, please click here for the Alabama Legislature’s website.

In addition, please contact House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee members and ask that they SUPPORT HB 272, Constitutional Carry.

Constitutional carry strengthens Alabamians’ right to self-defense by allowing any law-abiding adult who is at least 21-years-old and legally eligible to obtain a carry permit, to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without red tape, delays, or fees. It does not change who is eligible to obtain a carry permit. It also does not affect previously issued permits, and allows citizens who still wish to obtain a permit in order to carry in other states recognizing Alabama’s permits, to do so.

Don’t forget to forward this email to your family, friends, and fellow gun owners and respectfully urge them to SUPPORT HB 272. Alabama needs all its law-abiding gun-owners and Second Amendment supporters to help HB 272 continue to move through the legislative process to the Governor’s desk!
