Nevada: Judiciary Committees Pass Anti-Gun Bills

Yesterday, the Assembly Judiciary Committee passed Assembly Bill 354, to increase “gun-free zones” where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless, and Assembly Bill 355, to deny Second Amendment rights to young adults. Additionally, on Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary passed SB 171, to expand prohibiting categories to include additional misdemeanor crimes. The bills will now head to the floor in their respective chambers. Please use the take action button below to contact your lawmakers to ask your assembly member to OPPOSE Assembly Bills 354 and 355 and your senator to oppose SB 171.

Assembly Floor:
Assembly Bill 354 bans possessing firearms within 100 feet of polling places and redefines firearm frames and receivers. Under this legislation, a CCW holder could potentially face criminal penalties for simply traversing within an arbitrary distance of a ballot drop box.

Assembly Bill 355 discriminates against adults 18-20 years old, and further denies them their Second Amendment rights, by prohibiting them from possessing semi-automatic rifles and shotguns. In addition, it also requires gun owners to lock up their semi-automatic long guns to prevent those under the age of 21 years from accessing them, or face criminal penalties. Under this legislation, both the parent and adult child could face criminal penalties while engaged in hunting or shooting sports with no criminal intent if using centerfire semi-automatic rifles or shotguns. These are some of the most commonly used firearms for the respective activities.

Senate Floor:
Senate Bill 171 expands Nevada’s prohibited persons categories for certain misdemeanor crimes.

Again, please contact your lawmakers to ask your assembly member to OPPOSE Assembly Bills 354 and 355 and your senator to oppose SB 171.
