This coming Tuesday is going to be a critical day for law-abiding gun owners across Washington, with three separate hearings scheduled to review anti-gun legislation. Late last night, the state legislature set a hearing for House Bill 1386, an ammunition tax similar to the 2024 session's failed House Bill 2238. The hearing will be held 8am on Tuesday, January 21st, by the House Finance Committee.
Please consider submitting testimony in opposition of this bill and register your position as "Con" through the House Committee website. Additionally, please contact members of the Committee by using the TAKE ACTION button below.
HB 1386 creates an additional 11% excise tax on the sale of all ammunition in the state. Firearms and ammunition are already subject to an 11% federal excise tax through the Pittman-Robertson Act, along with a variety of other state and local taxes and fees.
The NRA has current litigation against California's similar 11% excise tax, and will be present at the hearing to oppose this bill.
Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates as this legislative season progresses.
