Colorado: FOID Bill and Age Restrictions On the Move

This first week of March is shaping up to be a busy one, as anti-gun radicals in the General Assembly continue to steamroll gun control bills through the legislature.

Senate Bill 25-003, the near all-encompassing semi-automatic ban turned permit-to-purchase scheme, has been scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, March 5th, in the House Judiciary committee. It was previously scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday.

The House Judiciary has given us an extra day for advocacy against SB 25-003, do not let it go to waste! It is CRITICAL to contact members of the committee NOW by using the TAKE ACTION button below and to contact Governor Polis' office at (303) 866-2471 or by email at [email protected]. Use your voice to oppose this unconstitutional bill and prevent it from advancing any further!

Senate Bill 25-003 creates a "permit-to-purchase" scheme for banned semi-automatic firearm platforms. Coloradans who complete the Hunter's Safety Course or possess a concealed carry permit would be required to take 4 hours of firearms education, and individuals who possess neither would require 12 hours of education to apply for the purchase permit.

In the Senate, House Bill 25-1133which places age restrictions on all ammunition purchases, has been assigned to the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committee. It has not yet been scheduled for a hearing. Please contact members of the committee directly by using the TAKE ACTION button below and urge them to OPPOSE HB 25-1133.

Additionally, House Bill 25-1238 and House Bill 25-1055 have seen movement recently. HB 25-1238, which places undue restrictions on gun show vendors and organizers, is up for second reading in the House today, and HB 25-1055, which would have repealed the state requirements and permitting process for federally-licensed firearms dealers, was unfortunately killed in the House Business & Labor Affairs committee on a party-line vote.

This year has been busy for the General Assembly, and we can assume they will continue their assaults on the Secon Amendment. Stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates as this legislative session progresses.
