Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 45, legislation to track the lawful purchases of gun owners by mandating a new "merchant category code" (MCC) for credit and debit financial transactions at retail businesses. This bill is now eligible for a vote on the House floor. Please contact your state representative by using the Take Action button below and ask them to oppose HB 45!
House Bill 45: Collecting firearm retailer financial transaction data amounts to surveillance and registration of law-abiding gun owners. Federal law contains multiple restrictions on the creation of a national firearms registry and the creation of this MCC should be perceived as an attempt to circumvent those restrictions.
