Iowa: Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment Hits Roadblock as Pro-Second Amendment Bill Advances.

On Tuesday, S-3050 was introduced as an amendment to SJR 7, legislation proposing to put the right to hunt, fish and trap on the ballot for inclusion in the state constitution. S-3050 is considered hostile by the proponents and the sportsmen community, limiting legal recourse in the event there are violations of SJR 7, if approved by the voters. Please use the Take Action button below to tell your Senator to protect the interests of sportsmen by not adopting S-3050, which would alter the original language.

SJR7 as introduced, this legislation proposed a constitutional amendment that would ensure Iowans have a right to hunt, fish, and trap. In recent years, anti-hunting organizations across the nation have pushed their agenda to restrict or, in some instances, outright ban hunting, fishing, and trapping. Currently 24 states recognize the right to hunt and fish in their state constitutions.

Additionally, In Iowa, pro-gun legislation is moving in the House. HF 924, formerly reported on as HSB 262, which lowers the age for adults to acquire a concealed carry permit from 21 to 18, was passed on the House floor 79-18. HSB 262 will now move to the Senate for further consideration.
