Today, the Texas House State Affairs Committee passed Senate Bill 1065, legislation that protects the rights of License To Carry holders from being disarmed on public property. SB 1065 was filed in response to the State Fair of Texas’ misguided decision to ban lawful carry on taxpayer-owned grounds. The bill now heads to the House Calendars Committee. Please use the Take Action button below to contact the Committee and urge them to support SB 1065 with no amendments.
SB 1065 prohibits lessees of publicly owned property from creating gun-free zones. SB 1065 secures this protection by requiring the government entity controlling the property to include in all contracts a provision that expressly prohibits restrictions that would prevent an individual who is licensed to carry a concealed firearm from doing so. It is vital that this legislation be passed with no amendments to ensure the strongest protection possible for Texans.
