According to a report out of Bakersfield, a good faith effort to obey the state’s labyrinthine firearm rules will not spare a gun owner in technical violation of the law from the wrath of the California Department of Justice.

We recently reported on proposed rules announced by the Trump Administration to update the U.S. export regime for firearms and ammunition and to ease burdens and red tape on domestic firearm-related businesses, especially gunsmiths and manufacturers. Comments on these proposals are still urgently needed to help refine the final rules and ensure the voices of America’s small firearm-related businesses and gun owners are heard.

Numbers are supposed to be a universal truth. The issue that arises with numbers – specifically the number of NICS checks run by the FBI – is the interpretation or presentation. Narratives shift depending on how the numbers “need” to be reported. High numbers of gun sales? Fear-based clinging to guns. Low numbers? Well, we haven’t had low numbers of NICS checks in quite some time.
