There were 687 gun permits issued in Grant County in the first six months of this year, according to statistics from the Indiana State Police. That`s 17 more than were issued in all of 1998. And if the number of permits issued in the second half of this year keeps pace with the first half, the county will hit a six-year high for permits issued. There were 1,026 permits issued in 2002 and 1,053 in 2001.
