On Wednesday, January 26 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm the Florida Senate Criminal Justice Committee will hold a hearing on SB 436, sponsored by Senator Peaden. SB 436 removes the “duty to retreat” in the face of attack and creates the presumption that an attacker or intruder intends to do great bodily harm and force may be used to protect yourself and family. The bill also seeks to prohibit prosecution for such defense and civil lawsuits by criminals or relatives of criminals if they are injured or killed while committing a crime. Please send an email to the committee members and respectfully urge them to support SB 436.
