ATTENTION LOUISIANA NRA MEMBERS: Another gun control bill is on the move in Baton Rouge!

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

On Wednesday, June 1st, the Louisiana House Ways & Means Committee will hold a public hearing on HB 726, the ammo tax bill, in Committee Room 6 of the State Capitol at 9:30 a.m.

HB 726 by Representative Charmaine Marchand (D‑New Orleans) would impose a 3‑percent tax on the sale of all ammunition in the state.  Monies collected under the bill would be deposited into a newly‑created fund called the "Juvenile Crime Prevention Fund."  Programs, services, and activities, which may be supported by future appropriations from that Fund include the following: "conflict resolution and anger management," "stress management and reduction," and "self‑esteem development."

The Legislature will reconvene from their Memorial Day Weekend break on Tuesday, May 31.  Please contact committee members below on Tuesday and urge them to OPPOSE HB 726.  All Representatives can be reached in Baton Rouge during the workweek by calling (225) 342‑6945:
