New Hampshire: Castle Doctrine Bill To Be Heard in the House Committee on April 12

Thursday, April 7, 2011

On April 12, the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee is scheduled to hear an important self-defense bill that is critical to the citizens of New Hampshire.

As previously reported, the Senate Judiciary Committee added an amendment to Senate Bill 88 that would have severely weakened this important self-defense measure.  Thanks to the help of state Senator Jim Luther (R-12), the Committee amendment was voted down on the Senate floor.  This Castle Doctrine bill passed in the state Senate on March 30 by a 17 to 7 vote.

Introduced by state Senator David Boutin (R-16), SB 88 would remove the duty to retreat and allow law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their home and any place outside of their home.

Please call and e-mail members of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee and urge them to support SB 88.  Contact information for the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee can be found here.
