Nevada Campus Protection Act Needs Your Immediate Action

Thursday, June 2, 2011

Contact members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY!

Yesterday, the Assembly Judiciary Committee held a three and a half hour hearing on the Nevada Campus Protection Act (Senate Bill 231).  It is imperative that this committee acts quickly on this bill so that it can move to the full Assembly for a vote before the legislative session ends on Monday, June 6.

Introduced by state Senator John Lee (D-1), SB 231 would allow individuals who hold a Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit to carry their firearm on the property of the Nevada System of Higher Education without first gaining permission from the university president, which is currently mandated by statute.  It has been a long-held policy within the campus administration to not allow permit holders to carry, which has created an environment where students, faculty and staff are left defenseless in gun-free zones.

Please contact members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY, especially Chairman William Horne (D-34) and Vice Chairman James Ohrenschall (D-12), and request that they bring up SB 231 for a vote as soon as possible.  Contact information for the Assembly Judiciary Committee can be found below.
