Connecticut: Author of the Weston Gun Ban Issues Press Release

Monday, January 14, 2013

Yesterday, Weston Town Selectman Dennis Tracey issued a press release regarding his proposed changes to the town’s existing firearms ordinance.

As currently drafted, this ordinance would ban the ownership and possession of any “firearm or other weapon” in the Town of Weston unless one obtains a permit for the ownership of these lawfully possessed items and registers them with the town chief of police.  Failure to comply would result in a $500 fine.  This misguided and far-reaching gun ban would severely limit your right to self-defense and would subject law abiding citizens to discriminatory fees and regulatory schemes.

Based on citizens’ copious constitutional and legal concerns with this proposal, Selectman Dennis Tracey’s press release recommended that the Board defer consideration of this ordinance until further notice.

While this is an encouraging development, the fight is certainly not over because this is merely a “recommendation” from Selectman Tracey.  Weston, and surrounding communities, needs to remain vigilant and continue to contact Town Selectmen until they permanently reject this severe encroachment on our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

The Board of Selectmen is still scheduled to meet this Thursday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m.  THE MEETING LOCATION HAS RECENTLY CHANGED.   The Board will now meet at the Weston Middle School Cafeteria located at 135 School Rd in Weston.  The meeting agenda has not yet been posted.

Please visit www.nraila.org/westongunban for updates on this evolving issue.

If you cannot attend the meeting in person, please call AND e-mail Town Selectmen TODAY and encourage them completely abandon this ill-advised ordinance.  Their contact information can be found below.
