Missouri: Updates on Pro-Gun Legislation in the Missouri General Assembly

Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 24, two pro-gun bills are scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee:

Senate Bill 782, sponsored by state Senator Robert Onder (R-2), would allow permit holders to carry concealed on property and vehicles used for public transportation, including buses and metro.  Current law prevents individuals from carrying a firearm for self-defense on public transportation or in any terminal/facility used for public conveyance.

Senate Bill 1026, sponsored by state Senator Dave Schatz (R-26), establishes the ability of Missouri Sheriffs to issue lifetime permits for $200. This permit is good only in Missouri.  Current five year permits that provide reciprocity with other states will continue to be issued.

Please contact members of the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee and politely urge them to support Senate Bill 782 and Senate Bill 1026.

Additionally, House Bill 2057 and similar legislation, Senate Bill 656, sponsored by state Representative Mike Bernskoetter (R-59) and state Senator Brian Munzlinger (R-18) respectively, are in committee pending further consideration.  HB 2057 /SB 656 specify that except for credit card fees incurred, no additional fee beyond $100 may be charged to process concealed carry permits and allows military members extra time to renew their permits.

HB 2057 has been referred to the House Select Committee on General Laws for further consideration.  Please contact members of the House Select Committee on General Laws and politely urge them to support this legislation when it comes up for a vote.

SB 656 is pending consideration on the Senate floor and could be heard as early as this week.  Please contact your state Senator and urge him or her to support SB 656.
