Nevada: Wildlife Commission Considering Proposal to Push Discharge Ordinance to Almost One Mile!

On March 16th, the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Commission General Regulation 473/LCB File No. R111-17 which would prohibit the discharge of a rifle within 5,000 feet of an occupied dwelling and the discharge of a shotgun or bow within 1,500 feet of an occupied dwelling.  The proposed regulation is a solution in search of a problem, and the distances are completely unreasonable.  Please contact the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners and urge them to OPPOSE LCB File No. R111-17.  In addition, please consider attending the hearing.  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact the board.

LCB File No. R111-17 would prohibit the discharge of a rifle within 5,000 feet (almost one mile) of an occupied dwelling or a shotgun or bow within 1,500 feet (four football fields) of an occupied dwelling without prior approval from the landowner.  This could result in a de facto hunting ban and have a huge impact on Nevada hunters.  We have also been made aware that NDOW may consider reducing the distances to 1,500 feet for a rifle and 500 feet for a bow or shotgun.  These distances are still too long and could rule out hunting in many areas where occupied dwellings exist within 1,500 feet of each other, including on a hunter’s own private land.  Further, because consent from owners of occupied dwellings is required, it could allow a neighbor to prevent hunting within a mile to a quarter of a mile regardless of land ownership.

Please let NDOW know that this is unacceptable!

Again, please contact members of Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners and urge them to OPPOSE LCB File No. R111-17.  Details for the hearing may be found here and below.
