Yesterday, the South Dakota Senate passed Enhanced Preemption Legislation, House Bill 1056, by a 31 to 3 vote. HB 1056 will now be sent to Governor Kristi Noem’s desk for her signature. Please contact Governor Noem and urge her to sign House Bill 1056 into law.
Recently, there have been multiple local municipalities attempting to enact their own gun control through local ordinances or resolutions. These types of unnecessary anti-gun measures attempt to go beyond state law by imposing further burdens on law-abiding gun owners in South Dakota. House Bill 1056 seeks to enhance South Dakota’s current preemption laws by further restricting the ability of local municipalities to enact a complex patchwork of gun laws throughout the state.
