New Hampshire: Anti-Gun Bills Set for Committee Hearing

Multiple legislative committees are scheduled to consider anti-gun bills next week. Each of these bills are unnecessary backdoor attempts to create further restrictions on your Second Amendment rights. These measures will do nothing to prevent crime in New Hampshire and committee members need to hear from you now.

Please click each “Take Action” button below to contact committee members and ask them to stand with you by OPPOSING House Bills 1350, 1143, 1349, 1509, and 1285.

House Criminal Justice & Public Safety Committee:

House Bill 1350 mandates that any firearm transfer, including temporary transfers, have to include a firearm safety device. As drafted, this creates outrageous outcomes for law-abiding gun owners, such as requiring a gun lock or safe to be included when someone simply borrows a firearm at the shooting range or while out hunting. It requires these safety devices to be redundantly “approved” by the state Department of Safety. This is a waste of New Hampshire taxpayer dollars since the US Consumer Product Safety Commission already regulates firearm safety devices.

House Judiciary Committee:

House Bill 1143 repeals limited liability for manufacturers, distributors, dealers, and importers of firearms and ammunition. This bill burdens the firearm industry with frivolous litigation for criminal misuse of their products by third parties: something entirely out of their control. It is a direct assault on the Second Amendment and the laws designed to protect and keep the right to bear arms.

House Children & Family Law Committee:

House Bill 1349 uses your taxpayer dollars to establish a committee to create anti-gun propaganda to further erode your rights. This bill is just another attempt to undermine the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding individuals by mandating strict one-size-fits-all storage requirements. Being forced to fumble with a lock and key in a self-defense situation can mean the difference between life and death. If anti-gun legislators were serious about keeping kids safe, they would know that the key to reducing firearm accidents isn't about diminishing your right to self-defense: it's about educating our children on the safe use of firearms.

House Education Committee:

House Bill 1509 creates an emergency threat protection order for individuals at post-secondary institutions through a complex, bureaucratic scheme for situations that can already be addressed under existing mental health laws. This legislation does not require any mental health treatment for an individual after an order is issued. Existing state law provides better opportunities for individuals to get the treatment they need.

House Bill 1285 prohibits law-abiding citizens carrying firearms for self-defense from going on school grounds except when picking-up or dropping-off students, and only if the firearm remains in their vehicle. So-called “gun-free zones” simply disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless against the criminals who ignore such arbitrary boundaries.
