Idaho: Legislative Update- Big Wins in the Gem State

There have been big wins in the Gem State this week for the Second Amendment! The anti-school carry bill is stopped in its tracks in committee and multiple pro-guns bills are on the move in the legislature.

Legislative Update

SB 1418, goes above and beyond what current law allows for school employees to carry firearms and hands over draconian gun control authority to elected school board officials. SB 1418 has been held in the Senate State Affairs Committee on a 5-4 vote. 

SB 1317 creates a Gadsden flag/ Don’t Tread On Me license plate for Idaho, and revenue generated from the specialty plate will fund a grant program for firearms safety training in schools. SB 1317 passed out of House Transportation Committee and will now be eligible for a final vote on the House floor.

SB 1374 prohibits private groups from restricting the lawful carry of firearms on public property unless the event is by invitation only, for commercial purposes and charges an admission, or it is otherwise apparent to a reasonable person the event is not open to the general public. SB 1374 passed the Senate (28-7) and will move to the House for further consideration.
