On Tuesday, March 18th, the Public Safety and Security Committee favorably passed House Bill 7052, which would raise the magazine restriction limit from 10 rounds to 15 rounds, out of committee. This bill would also allow ranges to sell ammunition for on-site use. Currently, citizens are prevented from buying ammunition unless they have a valid permit. While this legislation is a step in the right direction, we firmly oppose hardware bans and support full repeal of Connecticut’s magazine capacity restrictions. These arbitrary restrictions do nothing to improve public safety and only disadvantage law-abiding citizens when faced with violent criminal attack. Magazine restrictions are being challenged on constitutional grounds in both state and federal courts in multiple jurisdictions.
